Sewing needles found in strawberry punnets
A sewing needle has been found in a punnet of strawberries in Yarram.
Ground down needles have been discovered in at least three punnets of Berry Obsession and Berry Liscious brands of strawberries in towns including Yarram.
They were supplied to Woolworths from a southeast Queensland farm.
A disgruntled former employee is suspected of planting the needles, sparking health alerts in the eastern states.
Queensland Strawberry Industry development officer Jennifer Rowling says police are investigating.
"So basically every punnet of strawberries can be traced back to the farm.
"It can be traced back to the date it was picked and packed, and to the workers... so to the pickers and packers that were involved."
Anybody who purchased that brand of strawberries since early last week is being advised to throw them out.
